apexart 2021-22 International Open Call Results – 18,462 votes
Four exhibition proposals have been selected from 520 submissions through apexart’s 2021-22 International Open Call. They were evaluated by 514 individual jurors, including students from 24 university classes and 1 high school class, resulting in 18,462 votes cast! Submitters and jurors represented 88 countries. The following highest rated exhibitions will be presented in their respective proposed cities during apexart’s 2021-2022 season. Congratulations!
1. Ctrl+Alt+Yellow (Oakland, USA)

Bay Area artists with lineage in Asia engage radical modes of narration, responding to and transcending histories of racism in the U.S. to overcome historical and present-day hardships.
2. Arewa, Me Too (Kaduna, Nigeria)
Submitted by Favour Ritaro
Women artists living and working in northern Nigeria confront regional stereotypes and cultural expectations that perpetuate domestic and gender-based violence.
3. Art for Women’s Lives (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
Submitted by Milhas Pela Vida das Mulheres
Women across Brazil use art to guide the urgent debate on the de-criminalization of abortion, defying the ultra-conservative government’s petitions to severely restrict access.
4. “Can you fuck it?” — The Fem-bot Phenomenon (Tokyo, Japan)
Submitted by Elena Knox
Using humor, deconstruction, and the speculative reframing of a familiar figure, international women artists working in Asia critique the modern phenomenon of the female-simulating robot.
