About the opportunity:
For the Curator-in-Residence 2023-24 (“CIR”), Kunstraum is seeking a self-starter with an innovative and ambitious mind who thrives on creative freedom, is comfortable assuming a leadership role, and has an interest in working within an established artist-run gallery. CIR’s mission is to bring a unique curatorial vision to the program and highlight their curatorial practice in the New York art world by facilitating engaging exhibitions and events and building our community.
The CIR is responsible for directing the gallery program at KUNSTRAUM for 12 months. During the residency, they will have the opportunity to present their position through three curated exhibitions: KUNSTRAUM’s annual Members Show, an Open Call Exhibition, and an independent CIR Exhibition as final project with the help of KUNSTRAUM’s team. In addition, the CIR lends support to 1-2 guest curator projects.
KUNSTRAUM will provide $5,000 in exhibition funding for the CIR’s independent final exhibition. The CIR is expected to leverage existing relationships with the press, foundations, art fairs, curators, and collectors to garner support for the exhibition. While the annual membership exhibition will be held in the gallery space of KUNSTRAUM in Brooklyn, it is welcomed to present the independent CIR exhibition in a Manhattan venue and to devote time and energy to finding such a space.
