Kunsthalle Zürich Appoints Fanny Hauser as New Director
Kunsthalle Zürich has announced the appointment of Fanny Hauser as its new director. She will take over the role in January 2025, following the departure of Daniel Baumann, who led the institution for ten years. Baumann steps down to pursue a career as an independent curator.
A Vienna Native with a Strong Background in International Art
Born in Vienna, Fanny Hauser brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Since May 2022, she has been the assistant director at the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst in Aachen. Her career includes co-founding the Vienna-based art association Kevin Space in 2016, as well as working as a curatorial assistant at Documenta 14 during the same year.
In addition to her curatorial work, Hauser was a lecturer at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna from 2021 to 2022, further demonstrating her engagement with the academic side of contemporary art.
Strong Ties to Switzerland and Kunsthalle Zürich
Hauser is no stranger to Switzerland or Kunsthalle Zürich. According to Michael Ringier, the president of Kunsthalle’s selection committee, she has a deep understanding of Switzerland and its cultural landscape due to her work at the Gebert Foundation in Rapperswil. Furthermore, her frequent visits to Zürich have made her well-acquainted with Kunsthalle Zürich’s program.
Looking Forward to 2025
Hauser’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Kunsthalle Zürich, which has long been at the forefront of contemporary art. Her international experience and local familiarity position her as a strong leader to continue the institution’s legacy while bringing fresh perspectives.
