Xue Tan appointed Chief Curator of Haus der Kunst
Haus der Kunst is pleased to welcome Xue Tan as its new Head of Programme and Exhibitions. In this role she will be Chief Curator of Haus der Kunst starting from June 2024. The position is a vital part of the senior management team, and will be instrumental in further shaping and implementing Haus der Kunst’s ongoing transformation.

Xue Tan is a curator, producer, and writer from Hong Kong. She is the founding Senior Curator of Tai Kwun Contemporary, a leading contemporary art centre in Asia. Playing a key role in the institution’s conception since 2015, she oversaw the exhibition programme and special projects, curating and producing complex large-scale projects, establishing a unique live and media programme, commissioning new works, and organizing music events, talks, and screenings. Among others, she recently curated solo presentations of Maria Hassabi, Pan Daijing, Tino Sehgal, Francis Alÿs, Cao Fei, and major live commissions with Scarlet Yu and Xavier Le Roy, Nile Koetting, Mette Edvardsen, and Eisa Jocson. She has also led group exhibitions around the subjects of ecology, feminism, gender, live, and technology.
Tan carried out curatorial projects across continents, including with the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt and the Center for Curatorial Studies of Bard College in New York. Her curatorial work reimagines art spaces and exhibition-making as a proactive and responsive medium for artistic experimentation, with a research focus on ecology, transnational narratives, cosmotechnics, liveness, and performativity. Xue Tan explores new formats of art practices and presentation as a site for intergenerational dialogue and process forward.
Among her curated exhibitions and projects, Tan has worked with artists on new commissions and productions including Candice Lin, Rohini Devasher, Tarek Atoui, Sriwhana Spong, Lina Lapelytė, Trevor Yeung, Yuko Mohri, Sean Raspet, SERAFINE1369, Tamiko Nishimura, Kazuo Kitai, Nadim Abbas, Zheng Mahler, Pratchaya Phinthong, Thea Djordjadze, Jason Dodge, Yuri Pattison, Shinro Ohtake, Cui Jie, Anne Imhof, Émilie Pitoiset, Leelee Chan, and Alvin Lucier.
Xue Tan succeeds Emma Enderby, who contributed to the new paths of Haus der Kunst with her interdisciplinary practice, curating exhibitions like Tony Cokes, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Liliane Lijn. She is now moving to be Artistic Director at KW Berlin.
