A.P.T is launching its 2013 Curatorial Fellowship

Applications are invited from artists, curators and visual arts organisations to apply for the A.P.T 2013 Curatorial Fellowship. We see the Fellowship as an opportunity to make new approaches to exhibiting contemporary visual art and to expand the use of the A.P.T Gallery.
The offer includes a three-month exhibition period in the A.P.T Gallery, exhibition resources and £2,000 to support the project. Support and mentoring is also provided by A.P.T and its artist-members.
To apply please email or send your proposal (800 words) with supporting CVs and visual material (where relevant) to aptlondon@btconnect.com. The proposal should provide an overview of how the exhibition space could be used, and an indication of the artists / curators / visual arts groups that you will engage with during the three-month programme.

The first A.P.T Curatorial Fellowship was launched in July 2012 and our inaugural fellows are Rose Lejeune, Bea de Souza and Charlotte Jansen from NO WAY. Their programme for DURATION [26:7:2012 – 19:10:2012] can be found at http://duration-apt-gallery.tumblr.com/.
During the development of the Fellowship we considered the scope of the gallery profile, and looked and the quality and breadth of past exhibitions. Key areas for development were identified: being responsive to different audiences, offering different modes of selection and the clarity of the gallery profile. Accordingly the entire Gallery programme has been re-ordered into five distinct strands of activity:-
● Curatorial Fellowship, three-month funded exhibition opportunity available to curators and artists
● A.P.T Selected Exhibition Programme, the Gallery & Projects Committee selects shows from openly submitted exhibition proposals (rolling deadline)
● A.P.T Projects, a funded education programme which enables artists to develop their arts practice and realise their potential
● Creekside Open, a biennial competition for visual artists set up by A.P.T in 2005 to celebrate its tenth anniversary. The next Creekside Open will be launched in January 2013
● Artist-members’ Programme including group exhibitions and Open Studio weekends
A.P.T supports participation in the visual arts through creative practice, exhibitions and education. Since it was set up in 1995 A.P.T has provided 37 affordable studio space for visual artists and has run a continuous and varied exhibition and education programme demonstrating the diversity of contemporary visual art.
A.P.T’s Gallery and Projects Committee determines our exhibition programme and has originated this initiative. The committee consists of elected artist-members. Their combined experience as artists working in higher education and in the public realm, puts them in a strong position to oversee the gallery programme to encourage future development.
