Assistant Curator

Tai Kwun is the Hong Kong’s centre for heritage and art. Situated at the meticulously restored Central Police Station compound, one of the most significant revitalisation projects in Hong Kong, which includes 3 declared monuments of the former Central Police Station, the Central Magistracy and the Victoria Prison, Tai Kwun will bring culture and leisure experiences for all to enjoy.

Reporting to the Head of Arts, you will:

  • Work closely with Exhibition Manager and curators on the overall planning, development and implementation of contemporary art exhibitions
  • Work with the Exhibition Manager to help in the administration, planning and organization of art exhibitions
  • Liaise with lenders, institutions, curators and artists throughout the production process of art programmes
  • Handle artwork loan agreements with artists, museums and collectors
  • Work with artists on realising art commissions, including planning, production and communication
  • Coordinate artwork administration, transportation and logistics to ensure safe handling of artworks for the exhibitions and supervise art handlers’ work on site during installation and dismantlement of exhibitions
  • Maintain good relationship with artists, partners and service providers
  • Coordinate with other internal departments for opening events. Handle internal workflow for procuring service providers. Ensure works are delivered timely and the quality is to the entire satisfaction and best interest of Tai Kwun

You should have/be

  • Degree in Arts/Cultural Studies or other relevant discipline
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a contemporary art related institution. Hands on experience in contemporary art exhibition planning, production, communication and management
  • Experience in the administration of contemporary art exhibition workflow
  • Genuine interest and very good knowledge in contemporary art and visual culture
  • Self-motivated, passionate in working with artists, curators and researchers in developing complex art projects
  • Problem solving skills, creative, responsible and detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills, proficient in both spoken and written English and Chinese.  Good Putonghua is preferred
