Associate Curator of Renaissance Painting
The National Gallery is seeking an Associate Curator to play a key role in the care and display of the Gallery`s Renaissance (pre-1600) paintings.
Working closely with the Curators of Early Italian Paintings, German and Early Netherlandish Paintings and Sixteenth-Century Italian Paintings, the Associate Curator of Renaissance Painting will be involved in the full range of curatorial activity, including redisplays in the pre-1600 galleries; scholarly research; providing accurate and up-to-date information concerning the pre-1600 paintings; curating and co-curating exhibitions; potentially seeking acquisitions and loans in this area; working with Development; and contributing to the Learning and National Programmes Department`s public programmes.
The successful candidate will be a specialist in a relevant field of expertise (Italian paintings 1260-1600, Early Netherlandish, German paintings 1400-1600) with experience of working in a collecting institution. They will have a record of publications, curated projects and exhibitions to a high international standard. They will also have the flexibility and the aptitude to work on both Northern and Southern European paintings 1300-1600. Exceptional public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from the general public to artists, peers, lenders, and supporters of the Gallery is also essential.
