Beirut is a not-for-profit art initiative and exhibition space in Cairo. Founded in 2012, its office and gallery spaces, public library, project studios and classrooms are located in a small villa with garden in the neighborhood of Agouza. Beirut offers a year-round public program of exhibitions, discursive and educational activities that voice the importance of independent and critical thinking for political and social imagination. Beirut considers institution building a curatorial act. The institution as practice manifests a set of ideas grounded in the belief that change needs first to be imagined in order to be achieved.
