Call for applications to curate

Announcing a unique opportunity for a curator of Pacific descent to work with the support of Tautai and the New Zealand Maritime Museum to develop an exhibition and accompanying public programme for 2016.
Proposals should include:
– name and contact details of curator/s (email and cell phone)
– brief background outlining curator/s experience (it is not a necessity to have curatorial experience, this may be an outline of study/work or any art related experience. The opportunity is open to artists who want to curate an exhibition for the first time)
– possible title
– names of suggested artists and details about the works included such as medium/size any technical requirements
– concept driving the exhibition: a brief outline of the rationale behind the selection of artists/works and what the show aims to convey as a whole. Preference will be given to proposals that have considered the venue and site of the exhibition, and have good avenues for education and engagement of the community
– list possible public programme ideas for workshops and events
– identified and themes or programme areas that you believe the Museum’s education team could highlight and develop for working with school groups
Additional information:
– Curator/s will receive a fee
– Artists will receive a fee for their involvement
– Curator/s and majority of artists should have Pacific heritage
– No material costs for the artworks included are provided
– Some technical and display support will be provided through the Maritime Museum. Note there are budgetary constraints
– Materials and support for public/education programme will be provided
– Limited funding is available for a catalogue to accompany the exhibition
We anticipate the entire application should be no longer than two pages maximum.
Submissions wanted for a group show:
– showcasing, but not exclusive to Pacific Artists
– to be held in the Edmiston Gallery of Maritime Art (76-144 square metres)
– that has some connection to a maritime theme
– exhibition dates 27 June- 16 October 2016
