Applications are invited to fill the post of Chief Curator (GMG/SEG 4) at the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ), a division of the Institute of Jamaica, salary range JA$2,593,142 – $3,082,431 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.

 

Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of the education, outreach and curatorial activities of the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ), including but not limited to, acquisitions and display of the National Art collection and temporary exhibitions.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying and recommending works of art to be added to the National Collection.
  • Directing the administration, care and display of the National Art Collection and any works of art on loan to the National Gallery.
  • Directing the development, design and organization of National Gallery exhibitions and associated programmes.
  • Directing the research and publications of the National Gallery and the Gallery’s contributions to other publications on Jamaican art and related subjects.
  • Directing the planning and implementation of education and outreach programmes of the National Gallery.

 

Minimum Qualification/Experience/Competencies

  • PhD in Art History preferred
  • The incumbent needs to have an exceptional level of scholarship and professional experience, relevant to Jamaican and Caribbean art, and must be familiar with current museum and curatorial practices.
  • Ability to lead and inspire the curatorial team.
