Applications are invited to fill the post of Chief Curator (GMG/SEG 4) at the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ), a division of the Institute of Jamaica.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director, the incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of the education, outreach and curatorial activities of the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ), including but not limited to, acquisitions and display of the National Art collection and temporary exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and recommend works of art to be added to the National Collection.
  • Direct the administration, care and display of the National Art Collection and any works of art on loan to the National Gallery.
  • Direct the development, design and organization of National Gallery exhibitions and associated programmes.
  • Direct the research and publications of the National Gallery and the Gallery’s contributions to other publications on Jamaican art and related subjects.
  • Direct the planning and implementation of education and outreach programmes of the National Gallery.

Minimum Qualification/Experience/Competencies

  • PhD in Art History preferred
  • The incumbent needs to have an exceptional level of scholarship and professional experience, relevant to Jamaican and Caribbean art, and must be familiar with current museum and curatorial practices.
  • Ability to lead and inspire the curatorial team.
