CIMAM travel grants
CIMAM to award 30 travel grants to attend the CIMAM 2022 Annual Conference entitled “The Attentive Museum. Permeable Practices for a Common Ground,” to be held at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma, Mallorca, Spain, November 11-13, 2022.
- The call for applications is addressed to modern and contemporary art museum curators, researchers, directors, and independent curators.
- CIMAM Travel Grants contribute to the curatorial and research development of directors and curators of modern and contemporary art museums with less than ten years of experience through the attendance at the CIMAM Annual Conference, where the most current concerns about contemporary art practices are discussed.

The CIMAM Travel Grant Program aims to support the attendance of curators, directors, and contemporary art museum professionals at the 2022 CIMAM Annual Conference, with full access to the speakers’ presentations and all the activities programmed during the three days of the conference, such as the networking session and workshop, as well as visits to the foremost contemporary art exhibitions in Mallorca.
Eligibility
Directors and curators in museums, researchers, and independent curators whose field of study and specialization is contemporary art theory, collections, and museums, and whose major part of their professional activity is related to the functions of an art museum.
Applicants must not be involved in any type of commercial or for-profit activity.
While professionals at all levels are encouraged to apply, priority is given to junior directors and curators (with less than ten years of experience).
Selection criteria
Applicants who have previously received CIMAM grants from the same sponsor may only be considered for a new grant after 3 years from the previous grant award – unless the grant received was online. In that case, they may reapply.

What expenses are covered by the Travel Grant?
- Conference registration with access to all conference sessions, lunches, dinners, refreshment breaks, organized visits, networking sessions, workshops, and coach service to and from the scheduled visits during the three days of the conference.
- Travel expenses (round-trip air, train, or ferry tickets in economy class)
- Four nights’ accommodation in one of the hotels recommended by CIMAM.
- Becoming a member of CIMAM for the period awarded.
Application Process
Complete an online application form that includes a brief resume, a statement of motivation, and two letters of recommendation from professionals or academics familiar with the candidate’s qualifications.
CIMAM members (who have paid their 2020-22 membership fees) are exempt from providing two letters of recommendation, but should provide the names of two references.
Selection Process
Travel Grant applications are evaluated and awarded by the CIMAM Travel Grant Committee, composed of members of the CIMAM Board of Directors, and the travel grant sponsors.
Grantees are awarded based on the evaluation of the candidate’s actual financial need, the potential benefit to his/her development and/or research, and the relevance of the field experience to CIMAM’s objectives.
Upon acceptance of the grant, each successful candidate must submit an online acceptance form to provide travel details and agree to the terms and conditions of the fellowship.
