About Cavendish Arts Science

The Cavendish Arts Science Programme creates collective encounters between art and science that explore the world, our humanity, and our place in the world. We seek to create new artistic work that questions traditional centring of voices and ways of knowing, and looks to re-imagine ways of exploring material and immaterial universes.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Creative Producer who will work with the Director to develop and implement an artistic programme aligned with the ethos of Cavendish Arts Science. You will be responsible for the public programme of events and engagements – including the opening of the Ray Dolby Centre at the Cavendish Laboratory in 2023 – from designing innovative content to selecting artistic contributors to organising logistics. You will manage an international annual Open Call with a wide reach to select artist fellows, and will research and create collaborations with adventurous artists to participate in the programme. You will facilitate interactions between artists and scientists, and will engage with them to deliver thoughtfully produced artistic projects. You will be responsible for operational oversight of multiple overlapping programme strands with different stakeholders, and will take ownership of working with team members to deliver all project elements on time, including associated budgeting, production and logistics. You will be skilled at communication, and will be involved in developing a communications strategy to ensure wide programme visibility on the international stage. You will play a key role in growing a collaborative network within Cambridge and beyond, and will collaborate effectively with the team of Creative Partners and Advisors of the Cavendish Arts Science Programme, in addition to creating new artistic partnerships that support the ethos of the programme.

Candidate Profile

• At least four years of experience as an arts producer – experience of devising, developing and delivering imaginative artistic projects across different artforms, including installation and performance in a variety of spaces.
• Demonstrated commitment to the ethos of Cavendish Arts Science – questioning traditional centring of voices and ways of knowing, working on artistic projects that are thought-provoking, disrupt convention and imagine new possibilities, and engaging with communities that are not privileged in the mainstream.
• Experience working with international contemporary artists across a variety of artforms, knowledge of international landscape of contemporary artists, international developments in contemporary art and art institutions, professional networks in the contemporary arts.
• Proven organisational skills, with experience in simultaneously coordinating multiple projects and conversations, and the ability to prioritise them.
• Experience of managing production processes and installation of artistic projects, including managing logistics, deadlines, overseeing budgeting, and managing team members as required.
• Track record of building strong collaborations with partners both in the contemporary arts and across other disciplines, ability to engage with a spectrum of artists, with those in other fields, with those both within institutions and beyond, according to a variety of working styles.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with various stakeholders internal to the programme and with programme partners, and to convey the uniqueness of the programme to various external bodies, to the contemporary art world, to artists, and to the general public.

Further Details

The Creative Producer role is anticipated to be circa 2.5 days/week, on a contractor (freelance) basis. Working patterns will be flexible to suit the project requirements whilst ensuring adequate time is spent in Cambridge to support the programme. The expectation is for you to be on site for a significant amount of time during the artist residency period, and as required to build networks and to plan and organise events and engagements.
