About the post
Reporting to Co-Directors of Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile (“CHAT”), the Curator will play a role in developing and implementing for a wide range of interdisciplinary curatorial, pedagogical programs for CHAT. The Curator will work closely with curatorial team and collaborate with artists, designers, professionals, scholars, students, members of the broader community; conceptualizes and realises exhibitions, year-round learning and educational programmes, lectures, symposia, workshops and other related programmes.
The main duties
The Curator will be expected to:
- Conceptualise and realise exhibitions, year-round learning and educational programmes, lectures, symposia, artists talks, performances and other programs including adult and children’s classes; and
- Work for budget planning, adhering to programmes budget and maintaining accurate financial records; and
- Work independently to formulate a strategic vision for CHAT’s public and educational programmes; and
- Organizing and compelling public and educational programmes with education institutions and NGOs; and
- Lead and sustain a wide range of strategic partnerships including universities, communities, institutions and beyond; and
- Identify, build and maintain good relationships with collaborating institutions; and
- Act as a liaison for all public programmes, education and research related partnerships; and
- Supervise the personnel, docents and freelance education consultants for programmes, including early education, upper level students, special needs and adult education; and
- Develop and implement evaluation tools to analyze the outcomes of educational and public programs, formulate reports, evaluates programme effectiveness and make recommendations; and
- Oversee museum tours, education interns and docent programmes; and
- Oversee registrations for all classes, camps and special programmes; and
- Research and identify funding opportunities for the public and educational programmes and participate in fundraising efforts including the preparation of funding applications; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
About you
- Possess a Master’s degree in Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies or related field.
- Having strong interests not only in contemporary art but also multiple disciplinaries including design, fashion and craft.
- Excellent English Writing skill for programme proposal and exhibition catalogue.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in organizing exhibitions, community and education program or related pedagogical programs for museum or cultural sectors.
- Knowledge and understanding of art institution, educational organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of a wide range of artistic processes, materials, and tools.
- Knowledge of all arts-related formats including but not limited to dance, performance, music, architecture, design and urban studies.
- Ability to work with experts, artists, designers, curators, scholars from all fields in creating programs for the exhibitions.
- Experience in program development and evaluation skills in museum education.
- Strong organizational skill, leadership and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to have a global perspective and apply innovative approaches to interdisciplinary programming in a museum setting.
- Demonstrated ability to teach a course, effectively present information and respond to art and education related questions from staff as well as the general public.
- Ability to display initiative, provide creative solutions, and utilize diplomatic skills with minimal supervision.
- Possess strong interpersonal skill and ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
- Attention to detail; strong diplomatic and mediation skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills in English and preferably Chinese or Cantonese.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Flexibility for being required to work in off hours, weekend and public holiday from time to time as deemed necessary.
- Good team player and willing to work for multiple different tasks toward CHAT’s grand opening.
