Curator
Reports to: Executive Director
Pay Rate: $50k – $6kk/annual
Status: full-time, exempt
The Contemporary Austin is hiring a Curator, Programs & Engagement to connect meaningful content, artistic practice, and event planning and production. This position will envision The Contemporary’s public events and programs through the lens of audience engagement, experience design, and community care.
The successful candidate works alongside the education, curatorial, and communications departments to bring together a suite of programs and engagement opportunities for our diverse array of audiences.
Responsibilities include:
- Initiate ideas for programs and events – both one off and perennial – that respond to the art on view, the artists involved, and the audiences we serve
- Respond to artists and community members who propose programs and collaborative endeavors
- Collaborate cross-departmentally for a wide range of activities, including sharing content, cultivating relationships, and developing programming
- Manage cross-departmental planning process that connects the museum’s long-range program calendar with broader institutional goals, ensures target audiences are being served, and communicates programming needs with other key museum functions
- Manage collection and analysis of program evaluation data to ensure that goals are met
- Serve as an internal ambassador, connecting audience-centered programming across departments
- Provide administrative and operational support with minimal supervision
- Oversee annual public programs budget
Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience driving cross-sector and multidisciplinary conversations about civic life, current events, contemporary art, lifelong learning, community events, and arts/culture programming
- Knowledge of the contemporary arts sector
- 3+ years’ experience planning and delivering public events
- Must be able to collaborate, corral, and close loops, while building and deepening relationships with a wide range of audiences
- Strong communications, relational, organizational, writing, and project management skills
- Ability to problem solve
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Salesforce or other CRM database, project management software such as Teamwork, Asana or others and social media
