Aspex is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual with a passion for contemporary visual art, experience of working with artists and a ‘can do’ attitude to join its committed team. This is a crucial role with key responsibility for the organisation and delivery of all aspects of the exhibition and residency programmes, together with the provision of support for Aspex’s Artists Associates.
Hours: Part-time (21 hours per week)
Job summary: To programme, fundraise and deliver exhibitions, projects, residencies, associated events, on and off-site and contribute fully to audience development. To manage the Artist Associates programme, supporting the freelance Artist Advisor.
You will be responsible for:
CURATORIAL/PROGRAMMING
- To be an active member of the programming team, initiating and developing projects, and researching potential artists for the programme on and off-site.
- To work with the staff team to plan and deliver audience development events.
- To support and develop the Aspex Artists Associates programme.
EXHIBITION & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Organisation and administration of all aspects of the exhibition programme, including liaison with artists, other galleries and agencies, transportation, insurance, preparation of contracts etc.
- Management of all aspects of project delivery and installation (including condition checking), supported by volunteers and freelance technicians (as required).
PROMOTION & PROFILE
- To prepare copy, images and video for the promotion of exhibitions and interpretative materials.
- Organising the documentation, evaluation and archiving of materials for all projects.
- Promoting and maintaining productive relations with external organisations (i.e. funding bodies, professional organisations and galleries).
- Representing Aspex through attendance at events, giving talks/tours, and externally through attendance at meetings, seminars and conferences as required.
FUNDRAISING
- Researching and identifying appropriate sources of funding and working with the Director to make applications in support of the programme.
BUDGET MANAGEMENT
- Management of the Exhibition and Artist Support budgets.
LINE MANAGEMENT
- Responsible for the management of freelance technicians and to support apprentices, interns and volunteers, providing training as required.
