Oslo Biennial First Edition is seeking a dynamic and well-qualified Curatorial Assistant.
The Curatorial Assistant will be a member of the Program Team and report to the two Biennial Curators, as well as assisting the Project Producers. The Curatorial Assistant’s role will be: to organize, administer, and deliver all aspects of a number of projects produced by the Biennial, as well as providing research support to the Curators. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Involvement in research, planning and carrying out the Biennial program.
The Curatorial Assistant’s duties in the position will be to:
- Work closely with the Curators and Exhibition Producers to deliver all aspects of the Biennial’s artistic production.
- Research artists and their work following curatorial directives and creating dossiers as required.
- Assist the Curators in scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, processing invoices, reconciling credit card payments and other expenses, and other administrative duties as assigned.
- Make arrangements for accommodation, travel and hospitality for the curators, visiting artists, including per diems.
- Schedule internal and external meetings and appointments and prepare materials as appropriate.
- Create a loans database, generating loan forms and liaising with lenders, if needed.
- Assist the Curators with drafting and monitoring preliminary schedules for each project. This might include locating data, data entry, image scanning, generating checklists and other reports, compiling installation requirements and restrictions, tracking actual expenses via exhibition budget forms, arranging photo documentation of installation. Ensuring that planned artistic process timelines and deadlines are met.
- Ensure all administration and project files are kept up to date.
- Drafting exhibition texts and language related to projects.
- Assisting the Project Producer on the logistical coordination of the project including production, installation and de-installation.
- Assist the Curators with all aspects of catalogue production and exhibition/project materials. This will include locating images, securing copyright permissions, compiling research material as directed, fact-checking in texts and back matter, mailing catalogues to photo and object lenders.

- The Curatorial Assistant will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. She/he will be capable of multi-tasking, while paying close attention to detail. She/he will be a problem solver. She/he must be able work under pressure both independently and as part of a team and be able to prioritize her/his workload effectively. She/he will have proven computer skills.
Essential requirements:
- Knowledge of, and interest in modern and contemporary art.
- 2-3 years’ experience working in cultural institutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent administration and project coordination skills.
- Excellent computer literacy with experience of Excel, mailing list and database management.
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail, proofreading skills, and immaculate presentation of work.
- An understanding of the need for confidentiality.
- Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a team and the Biennial as a whole.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when required.
- Ability to work calmly in a highly pressured environment.
Compensation:
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
