Curatorial Assistant
DESCRIPTION
To provide administrative support to the curatorial staff.
Job Duties:
- Assist in preparation and monitoring of correspondence, reports, proposals, checklists, and memoranda in connection with exhibitions, prospective acquisitions, research, publications, and other curatorial activities.
- Manage and facilitate lecture and symposium programs (as well as scholar/study days), including correspondence, travel arrangements, and other details of the lecturers’ visits and the opening events.
- Prepare and maintain permanent collection and special exhibition labels.
- Work with Acoustiguide on planning and implementing special exhibition audio tours.
- Distribute curatorial department mail.
- Answer, screen, and redirect calls and written inquiries for the department.
- Complete travel requests and expense reports for the department.
- Assist deputy director with annual curatorial budget.
- Assist with making travel arrangements for staff in curatorial department.
- Assist with research on exhibitions and the collection, updating curatorial files.
- Assist in preparation and editing of manuscripts for exhibition catalogues.
- Assist at exhibition openings and other special events as needed.
- Prepare lender lists for special exhibitions.
- Provide clerical, administrative, and other duties as required by the department.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree required. Efficient, well-organized, and very discreet individual with prior museum and/or office experience desirable; must be able to maintain confidentiality; proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe Photoshop; InDesign, FileMaker, or other database experience desirable; knowledge of art and foreign languages (e.g. French, Italian, German or Spanish) desirable. Applicants must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background and drug screening.
