The Curatorial Assistant works with a small and busy curatorial department to realize projects with artists, lenders, and arts institutions and deliver exhibitions. This is a part-time position that reports to the Chief Curator.
Typical duties include:
- Update and track exhibition calendar and timelines
- Coordinate per diems, draft itineraries, and contracts for exhibiting artists and speakers
- Coordinate hospitality for artists during installation and openings
- Communicate with artists and gallerists for contact lists and other needs
- Create and maintain seasonal contact lists, including invitation lists for exhibition openings
- Create prospectuses for touring exhibitions, and research and propose potential tour venues
- Track, communicate, and coordinate paperwork for participating exhibition venues, i.e. checklists, agreements, image permissions, didactics, paperwork support, and general record-keeping
- Write, proof, and edit letters, descriptions, and other correspondence for a variety of projects
- Conduct ongoing research related to potential exhibitions and/or upcoming projects
- Support idea generating and brainstorming for exhibition-related programs, including research as well as possible outreach to potential collaborators and/or speakers
- Screen and respond unsolicited mail and email requests
- Organize digital and physical exhibitions archive
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Art Administration, Museum Studies, or Studio Art or extensive equivalent experience
- Ability to research and skilled at writing and editing
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an administrative capacity in an office setting
- Familiar with professional practices
- Must be able to multitask
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently, remain calm under pressure, and find your feet in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and accuracy in written communication
- Skilled at managing deadlines
- Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed instructions
- Familiarity in contemporary art
Conditions of Work:
- Part time position, 15-20 hours per week
- Pay $15/hour
