Exhibition Coordinator, Radical Women

The Hammer seeks an exceptional candidate to coordinate Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960 – 1985 opening in September 2017 as part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA.

The exhibition will give visibility to the artistic practices of women artists working in Latin America and US-born women artists of Latino heritage between 1960 and 1985 – a key period in Latin American history and in the development of contemporary art. Fifteen countries will be represented in the exhibition by more than one hundred artists, with 260 works in photography, video, and other experimental mediums. The exhibition will also include a national and international tour and a scholarly publication.

Reporting to the Chief Curator, the Exhibition Coordinator will serve as primary liaison between the Hammer and guest curators Cecilia Fajardo‐Hill and Andrea Giunta. The Exhibition Coordinator will make travel arrangements for guest curators’ and artists’ exhibition related travel and meetings; organize and maintain exhibition and artist files; correspond with artists, lenders, and institutions; maintain, update, and circulate the exhibition checklist, including entering information into the museum’s TMS database system; work with guest curators and museum registration staff to coordinate loans of artwork; and working with guest curators and museum staff to collect images for web site and catalogue, among other duties. The Coordinator may also assist in guided research related to potential acquisition to the Hammer Contemporary Collection of Latin American art, with an emphasis on work by women artists.

Will also be responsible for project close out, which includes preparing research, documentation, and other associated exhibition materials for inclusion in an online archive when funding allows.

Duties in support of all of the responsibilities outlined above include preparing regular progress reports; maintaining files; coordinating logistics; managing and tracking budgets with curatorial affairs; and other duties as assigned to ensure the project’s successful development. Expertise in late 20th-Century Latin American art and culture is highly desirable. Candidate must be able to communicate well orally and in writing in both English and Spanish
