SPECIFICATIONS: M.A. in modern art history or related field required; Ph.D. and specialization in the history of German Expressionist painting strongly preferred. Minimum two years previous museum experience is also desired in addition to a demonstrated commitment to scholarship through research, exhibitions, and publications.
JOB PURPOSE: The main purpose of this Fellowship is to research the German Expressionism collection at the Saint Louis Art Museum and to be the primary author of a scholarly catalogue of this collection. During the 3-year term, the Fellow will work with members of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art as well as staff throughout the Museum and colleagues and collectors in the community.
- Research and write a thorough, scholarly catalogue of the German Expressionism collection in the Saint Louis Art Museum. This catalogue is intended as a companion to the catalogue, Max Beckmann at the Saint Louis Art Museum. The Paintings, published in 2015.
- Review, evaluate and catalogue as needed the Museum’s collection of German Expressionist painting.
- Work collaboratively with museum colleagues across departments to assist in the overall development of the catalogue; assessing conservation needs; coordinating object photography; and developing catalogue interpretation and programs.
- Participate in the day-to-day activities of the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art, including acquisition research, exhibition and program planning, participation in study room activities.
- Interpret and provide information on works in the collection through lectures, docent training, publications and outreach activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
