Gallery Curator
The Curator for the 80WSE Gallery is responsible for furthering the gallery’s pedagogical and artistic missions through the generation and production of contemporary and historical exhibitions, experimental projects, and student shows. Programming for the gallery’s 3,500 foot exhibition space and satellite spaces in the Broadway and Washington Square windows is produced in collaboration with faculty and students, supporting the aims and activities of the Department of Art and Art Professions. The Curator is responsible for the gallery’s operations and supervises a Gallery Registrar/Manager, an Exhibitions Coordinator, and a small team of student employees hired as part-time Gallery/Curatorial Assistants. This is a fixed term role.
Qualifications
Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combined with years of experience in art history, studio art, museum studies, arts administration, or a relevant field is required
Preferred Education:
Master’s Degree strongly preferred
Required Experience:
5+ years of experience curating exhibitions, leading and managing a gallery, relevant organization, or program, and a track record of ongoing engagement with a creative academic community.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Established professional record in the visual arts, or other creative field, experience in curating, exhibition making, a strong reputation and a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the skills required to run an art gallery within an academic context. Excellent time and project management skills; budget and resource management skills.
