The position
The National Gallery of Australia is seeking a senior art museum professional to fill the position of Head Curator, International Art. The successful candidate will join the Gallery at a time when it is embarking upon a major transformation. Possessing extensive knowledge of art history and strong museum connections, you will be responsible for the Gallery’s international art collection and programs. To succeed you will be creative by nature and an innate team player, driven by a desire to make a major impact on the visual arts in Australia and internationally.
You will provide vision, direct policy and manage the International Art Department. You will support the National Gallery to fulfil its ambition of rethinking art from alternative geographies and multiple vantage points. This includes working within the Curatorial department, supporting the research and development of the National Gallery’s collection, contributing and supporting strategy and policy development.
In consultation with the Director and Assistant Director, Curatorial and Programs, you will set the priorities on the overall program for International Art at the National Gallery. There is opportunity to implement ambitious programs for acquisition, exhibition, interpretation, display, promotion, conservation and advocacy and direct priorities for the department and its staff.
This is a full-time, ongoing employment opportunity available within the International Art Department, Curatorial and Programs Portfolio. Salary is negotiable, commensurate with skills and experience.
