September 13, Laura Zarta, Chief Curator of the Arts and Other Collections at the Banco de la Republica (the central bank of Colombia, which holds several museums and cultural centers throughout the country) will speak about her shows Traces of disappearance: the cases of Urabá, Palace of Justice and Nukak territory; the 45th National Arts Salon, Mutis 2020-21; and It’s a bird, it’s a plane… it’s The Yes Men — major exhibitions that relate to ecology, environmental rights, and sustainability. September 20, Stefanie Hessler, Director of the Swiss Institute in New York and former director of the Kunsthall Trondheim, will speak about two major recent projects, the exhibition Sex Ecologies “dedicated to social and environmental justice through ecological erotics,” and Sensing Nature, the Momenta Biennale in Montreal for which she served as chief curator. September 27, Kit Hammonds, Chief Curator at Museo Jumex, one of Mexico’s major contemporary art collections and exhibition spaces, will speak about two major retrospective on view, covering the work of Jannis Kounellis and Gabriel Kuri . Register for the event here.
October 4, Meskerem Assegued, is a curator, anthropologist, writer, and co-founder of Zoma Museum with Elias Sime in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She will speak about recent projects she has done in Ethiopia and elsewhere. Register for the event here.
October 11, Hajra Haider Karrar, a curator at SAVVY Contemporary, a leading art center in Berlin “accommodating and celebrating knowledges and epistemic systems from Africa and the African diaspora, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, but also Europe and North America.” She will speak about the criticality of crafting questions, poetry, and abstraction as methodologies of storytelling, while navigating and hacking platforms to anchor these stories. October 18, Anselm Franke, a curator and Head of Curatorial Studies, University of the Arts, Zurich. He will talk about new paradigms for curating historical archives and narratives today. A new understanding of origin stories and the functions they perform in the enactment of symbolic universes is a crucial concern for curating archives and beyond. Franke will touch on these ideas in relation to some of his major exhibitions. here.
