Open Call: Participatory Residency Programme
Academy of the Arts of the World in Cooperation with Un-Label
Application Deadline: 15 October 2024
Residency Period: April – September 2025 (in Cologne, with hybrid residencies available by arrangement)
Description:
The Academy of the Arts of the World (ADKDW), in collaboration with Un-Label, invites artists, activists, and cultural workers to apply for the Participatory Residency Programme. This residency aims to develop participatory programs based on a self-selected topic in collaboration with the ADKDW team and the Un-Label network. The selected artist-in-residence will work to engage the community through participatory formats and create events and activities that involve diverse groups in Cologne.
Who Can Apply:
This call is open to artists, activists, and cultural workers with disabilities, or those who self-identify as disabled, neurodiverse, or deaf. Applications from individuals or collectives working across all artistic disciplines are welcome. The program particularly encourages applications from people who experience intersectional or multiple marginalizations.
What We Offer:
- 2,000 € per month as a scholarship
- 8,000 € production budget
- 5,000 € for accessibility measures
- 5,000 € for work assistance or mentoring
- 2,000 € travel costs
- 2,000 € for documentation/public relations
- Workspace and event rooms (for up to 6 weeks)
- Accommodation with basic accessibility support (non-barrier-free apartment)
Expectations:
The residency seeks participants whose practice engages with intersectional, anti-ableist, and postcolonial critiques of power. The chosen artist(s) will design participatory activities, plan and execute events with the local community, and work collaboratively with ADKDW and Un-Label. The residency is designed to foster inclusion and active participation of marginalized groups, not just as recipients but as co-creators.
