Para Site is Hong Kong’s leading contemporary art space and one of the oldest and most active independent art centres in Asia. Under the direction of the Executive Director/Curator, the Curator of Education is responsible for the implementation and management of Para Site’s public programmes and new educational initiatives aimed at diverse audiences.
Responsibilities include:
- Helps direct the overall vision of Para Site’s education activities, leading to a growth in audience and increased awareness of Para Site
- Conducts programme research, development, and evaluation for new educational initiatives
- Oversees and coordinates the new educational initiatives, working in collaboration with external organisations
- With the Executive Director/Curator and Curator, plans public programmes (talks, panel discussions, workshops, screenings) related to Para Site’s exhibitions and publications
- Oversees and programs the annual international conference
- Strengthens relationships with faculty at local universities, and identifies opportunities to partner with other organisations
- Fosters communication between Para Site and the local community, developing strategies to engage with diverse audiences on various levels
- Ensures the effective promotion of all education programmes
- Develops and monitors the education budget
- With the Deputy Director, identifies possible funding for education programmes, and helps write proposals and grant applications
Qualifications include:
- Master’s degree in art history, curatorial studies, art education, or related field, in addition to a strong interest in contemporary art
- Minimum 3 years experience working with public programmes, and organizing large and small-scale projects
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work productively with diverse constituencies, including universities, local and international institutions, and the public
- Strong interest in engaging with the local community
- Fluency in both English and Cantonese
- Good sense of humour and judgment, and ability to work with a team
This is a 2-year-contracted, full-time position. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 11:00 am – 7:00pm, though some weeknights and weekends are necessary for events. Ideal start date is January 2015.
