The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art is looking for an Assistant Curator to join its growing and dynamic curatorial team.

Reporting to the Artistic Director and Curator, the Assistant Curator oversees the coordination of the curatorial and public education program, in addition to research, registration, collections management and conservation activities for the exhibitions and permanent collection.

The Assistant Curator will: 

-Collaborate with the Artistic Director and Curator to plan, budget and execute in-house and traveling exhibitions; 
-Develop and implement exhibition-related public programs, including publications, didactic materials, lectures and talks; 
-Participate in the development of new online initiatives to support the organization’s outreach program; 
-Manage incoming and outgoing loans from artists, collectors, dealers, and institutions, as well as correspond with lenders, and generate loan agreements, condition reports and contracts; 
-Develop and maintain positive relationships with artists, collectors, donors, and other stakeholders; 
-Monitor condition of loans throughout loan period, and arrange for conservation or other action as necessary; 
-Oversee local, national and international transportation of artworks; 
-Coordinate the schedule for installation/takedown of exhibitions; 
-Coordinate and administer artists’ editions, coordinate sales and distribution; 
-Contribute to grant applications to government agencies, foundations and private sources; 
-Provide administrative support to the curatorial department, maintain exhibition schedules and documentation files, publication files and correspondence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a university degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Visual Arts, or a related field with a minimum of three years’ experience organizing and coordinating exhibitions, artists’ projects and publications in a museum, public gallery, or art gallery setting. He/she will have a strong knowledge of the international and national contexts for contemporary art. He/she will have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with staff at all levels, audiences and stakeholders. He/she will have the ability to problem solve, work independently, set priorities, perform as a leader as well as follow directions, seek and accept feedback. He/she should welcome the challenge of working in a fast paced, high energy, and dynamic team environment. Exceptional organizational skills to manage projects and deadlines independently as well as the capacity to maintain simultaneous priorities are required. He/she must be able to work flexible hours during events with weekends and evenings as needed to participate in other museum activities.

This is a 3-year contract for a full-time position (40 hours per week within a flexible schedule) offering a competitive salary, and a comprehensive benefits package after an initial three month probation.
