The Walker Art Center is a multidisciplinary art center that places equal emphasis on the visual, performing, moving image and media arts of our time and consistently presents artists who are defining the 21st century and actively connecting its audiences with the aesthetics, ideas, and social implications of contemporary art.

The Walker Art Center is seeking two (2) knowledgeable, experienced and engaged Curators to join our dynamic Visual Arts team. Each respective position encompasses a range of duties related to temporary and collection-based exhibitions, Walker publications (from catalogues to online platforms), grant-driven initiatives, and furthering the Walker’s significant permanent collection. These roles will generate timely exhibitions, acquisitions, and projects of scholarly import and significance. These roles also participate in special projects including internal workgroups, artist residencies, and artistic programs that advance the Walker’s creative leadership, interdisciplinary mission, and commitment to scholarship. Working closely with colleagues in the department, the Curators will contribute to broad institutional initiatives, taking an editorial approach to the expanse and arc of Walker scholarship and programs, and serve as a vocal spokesperson and scholar for the Walker nationally and internationally. Walker Curators will also advise, support, and help steward campus-wide efforts to improve and refresh visibility of contemporary art via helping steward new commissions and acquisitions, including the newly renovated Minneapolis Sculpture Garden within the Walker’s 19 acre campus.

Qualified candidates will possess excellent knowledge of modern and contemporary art with an international/global perspective. Degree in art history or curatorial studies required; M.A. or Ph. D. preferred. 5+ years’ experience in a variety of curatorial practices within the field of modern and contemporary art, from exhibitions and collection practice to commissions and public programs. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with artists, collectors, dealers, donors, and colleagues across departments, as well as institutional and community partners; Excellent research and writing skills as well as the ability to make effective presentations to internal staff and general public audiences; A demonstrated commitment to original scholarship through research, exhibitions, and publications.

These are full-time, exempt positions located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Salary level is commensurate with experience; excellent benefits available.
