What you’ll do…
The role will be responsible for exhibitions and touring exhibitions, nationally (Wales) and internationally, with a particular emphasis on cultural engagement and income generating within a mixed funding model.
The role will provide strategic leadership for Amgueddfa Cymru’s exhibition programmes, international and national touring exhibitions, and coordinate the programme of gallery redisplays, permanent displays, design projects, 2D/3D design projects and gallery maintenance across Amgueddfa Cymru’s seven museums. You will create an effective framework for exhibition production to meet Amgueddfa Cymru’s Vision of ‘Inspiring people, Changing lives’ which delivers a participatory approach to exhibition programming and design; generates income and contributes to core costs; strengthens relationships with communities and exhibition partners and develops high quality products for Wales and to export to the UK and internationally.

- A high quality and participatory programme of inspiring, innovative and interdisciplinary exhibitions (touring and in house) that promote Wales and support Future Generation Act (Wales) goals.
- Exhibitions respond to key priorities and support corporate and national goals.
- Visitor and income targets achieved across different exhibition platforms
- Widened participation and greater diversity of those participating in exhibitions and exhibition development
- A collaborative working culture is adopted, agile, responsive and outcome- focused services.
- The work of the Exhibitions Department will be managed to achieve a high professional standard, to budget and on time and through the FGAW five ways of working.
- Effective use will be made of internal resources and external contractors engaged to support the programme, with an emphasis on quality as well as cost and benefits to Wales.
- The staff with the right knowledge and skills and competency to deliver excellence in exhibition and gallery development and support skills development through apprenticeships and volunteering.
- Strong relationships are developed and maintained both internally and externally in order to best facilitate the delivery of excellent exhibition programmes and processes.

- The knowledge and qualifications you’ll need…
- National and international exhibition programme development and delivery of complex collaborative projects/programmes which can combine multiple partners, locations and building construction and exhibition design in museum environments and other locations.
- Ability to generate and keep up to date with good practice and current thinking on gallery display and exhibition processes and programming
- Experience of managing a successful, income generating international touring programmes.
The experience you’ll need…
- Leading and managing multiple project programmes, preferably within museum environments.
- Developing co-produced methodologies and exhibition products and working in partnerships
- Budget and resource management.
- Developing effective business models, project briefs and programmes.
- Leading and managing teams and delivering multiple projects across complex programmes.
- Establishing effective evaluation and monitoring for continuous improvement for programmes
- Working with professional design teams, including cost consultants, engineers, CDM coordinators and project managers.
- Delivering commercial/income generating exhibition programmes for diverse audiences, locations and markets.
- Working in more than one language.
