Assistant Curator (full-time)

If so, then the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is looking for you!

We have an opening for an Assistant Curator to assist in organizing exhibitions and other special projects as assigned. They will also work toward departmental goals of building the collection, as well as to increase international reputation of the museum, cultivate the Chicago art community, and to work collaboratively with other departments within the museum to further the vision of the MCA. To be successful in this role, you must:

• Conceptualize, organize, and assist in managing exhibitions of varying scale and special projects as assigned, both originated in-house and traveling; participate in all related aspects including research, writing of catalogue and didactic materials, coordinating loans and installation, developing and monitoring budgets, volunteer guide training and public talks, and serving as liaison to education, development, public relations, and marketing, etc.
• Under the direction of the Senior Curator, participate in the MCA’s ongoing effort to build, present, and interpret its permanent collection which includes writing reports on possible acquisitions, building presentations for committee meetings, and gathering proper information and documentation; this would also involve engagement with the Emerge group, a collections and cultivation initiative.
• Maintain donor relations by visiting collections, fielding inquiries, leading tours, and cultivating support.
• Keep abreast of all aspects of the contemporary art world by maintaining contacts with colleagues in the field and developing knowledge of international, national, and local artists, new scholarship and literature in the field.
• Undertake research travel, as appropriate, under the auspices of the MCA.

Desired qualifications are an MA or MFA in Art History, Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, or equivalent experience, and:

• 3 years museum experience and/or research position at college or university level.
• Interest in multi-disciplinary art and performance practices.
• Ability to travel internationally.

This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm and as required for implementation of responsibilities and related museum activities. General mobility throughout museum properties is required.
