V&A Dundee is the first purpose-built design museum in Scotland and the only V&A museum in the UK outside London. V&A Dundee is an international centre for design which makes a national contribution by developing a greater focus on and public awareness of the value of design. The new museum celebrates Scotland’s importance in design. It hosts major exhibitions of outstanding international design that appeal to the widest public audience and develops understanding of our own and others’ cultural heritage.

The University of Dundee is a Founding Partner of V&A Dundee. The University is ranked as UK University of the Year for Student Experience (Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020) and one of its flagship areas is the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), ranked as the top art and design institution in Scotland (Complete University Guide 2019).

We are seeking to appoint a Curator (maternity cover 12 months) who will take a critical role in developing and delivering exhibitions of the highest quality. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to work directly with V&A Dundee and its partners, stakeholders and customers on the creation, development and delivery of this important national exhibition programme.

You will be jointly employed by V&A Dundee and the University of Dundee and based at V&A Dundee. You will work closely in partnership with the Director of Programme at V&A Dundee to develop and deliver the Exhibitions programme. You will work with a small and busy team on the realisation of projects with designers, lenders and design institutions, delivering historic and contemporary exhibitions and commissions. You will also take responsibility for the conceptual development, organisation and co-ordination of exhibitions and publications assigned by the Director of Exhibitions, including budgetary management and fundraising.

• A full range of curatorial activities including contributing to the delivery of the V&A Dundee’s curatorial vision, developing installation plans, liaison with designers and authoring of exhibition guides.
• Programme management from inception of the design brief through to procurement and delivery as well as management of budgets and staff.
• Dissemination and communication of information and contribution to public events
• Academic Liaison with University of Dundee to identify opportunities to enhance academic engagement V&A Dundee
