The British Museum is seeking a Project Curator: Peru Exhibition to work within the Africa, Oceania and the Americas department. The British Museum is a world renowned research institution and is the most popular tourist attraction in the UK. The post-holder will provide support to the Peru exhibition project team, working closely with the Curator, Project Manager, and other members of the team in the development and delivery of the publications and exhibition opening late 2021.
Key areas of responsibility:
- To work as a core member of the project team, assisting the Curator in research, drafting publications and the planning of events as well as liaising with internal and external stakeholders, partners and contributors.
- To manage and file project documentation and correspondence, and to obtain necessary information on loans through liaising with lenders and loan officers.
- To maintain a digital database and to work on excel to manage the object list to track their movements.
Person Specification:
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in anthropology or a related discipline and will have experience working in a research capacity and/or museum, developing exhibitions/programmes for non-specialist audiences. The candidate will ideally also have extensive knowledge of Peru and its collections, particularly during their colonial and post-colonial history, archaeology and anthropology. As an individual you will be highly organised, resourceful and possess strong communication skills, able to liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. You will also be IT literate and have experience of using museum databases. Spanish language skills would be an additional advantage.
