The British Museum is seeking a Project Curator: Santa Domingo Centre of Excellence for Latin American Research to join the AOA department. The main purpose of this role is to work as part of the Santo Domingo Centre of Excellence for Latin American Research to support SDCELAR research fellows and research affiliates in their collaborative BM research projects and improve the documentation and digitization of the British Museum collections.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
•Support Visiting research Fellows and research affiliates in digital research methods, the creation of online content and creation of multi-media outputs for the SDCELAR online presence.
•Collaborate with SDCELAR research fellows and represent the project at conferences and meetings.
•To lead on up-grading the documentation of the Latin American collection based on Centre’s research outputs and own knowledge and expertise.
•Coordinate in-field technical logistics and digital production of research fellow outputs as well as facilitating research fellow fieldwork and risk assessments.
•Develop digital communication strategies for SDCELAR.
•Coordinate logistics for short-term Visiting Fellows’ British Museum residencies.
•Coordinate and facilitate the remote and on-site collections based research of the Centre’s Fellows.
•Work alongside Development and Events teams to devise and coordinate special donor events and meetings.
•Liaise extensively with internal Museum staff and external, often international, stakeholders.
•Contribute content for digital dissemination including production of multi-media products in collaboration with the SDCELAR research fellows.
•Contribute to the Centre’s reports and publications.
•Collate and edit research outputs in preparation for website and print media publication.
Person Specification:
•Educated to degree level in relevant field such as digital humanities or equivalent experience.
•Advanced Spanish, both written and spoken.
•Experience of working in a Museum environment.
•Knowledge of multi-media content production (including work with audio and video editing software), MS Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and social media networks and trends in Latin America.
•Experience of research, fieldwork (including in Latin America) and publication.
•An open and effective communicator, both verbally and written, who can work well as part of a team as well as demonstrate initiative and cultural sensitivity.
•Great organisational skills, attention to detail and able to assess priorities and meet deadlines.
