
Assistant Curator of Academic Programming
Andrew W. Mellon Assistant Curator of Academic Programming serves as a primary liaison for the Hood Museum of Art to the Dartmouth faculty, runs day-to-day operations of the Center for Object Study, and facilitates the integration of the museum’s collections within the College’s curriculum. Additionally, develops collections-based teaching strategies with faculty and through teaching with the collection. Teaches frequently with the collection and support Hood curatorial staff teaching with the collection.

Masters plus 2-3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

- Master’s degree in art history or anthropology.
- Two years of teaching experience in the museum or education field.
- Broad knowledge of art history and the art of a range of cultures.
- Ability to mentor college students in research or curatorial projects.
- Excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to facilitate teamwork and stakeholder involvement.
- Knowledge of diverse learning and teaching skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and follow-up skills.
- Record of organization and preparation of special exhibitions.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications
Five years of museum experience in an academic programming capacity.
Participation in the field of academic programming education.
Proficiency in using The Museum System (TMS) database software.
Description
Teaches with the collection in the center for object study and collection installations and exhibitions in the galleries. Develops effective strategies for teaching in consultation with individual faculty members and other academic programming and education staff.

Coordinates all activity in the museum’s center for object study and curricular visits to the galleries, working closely with the center for object study attendant, and object study art handlers.

Oversees and coordinates the student internship program and associated programs. Coordinates and sometimes leads co-curricular programming involving collections in collaboration with the faculty, director, and/or other curatorial or education staff members.

Curates installations in the galleries and coordinates student-curated and faculty and guest-curator organized exhibitions within the museum.
