
Curator (Contract)
We are seeking a self-motivated candidate for a 1 year research and curatorial position with a team developing a platform to host digitised pre-1900 maps of Southeast Asia.
This is a grant funded 12-months contract position.
Responsibilities
The project is based at Yale-NUS College Singapore, and is in collaboration with the National Library Singapore, Bodleian Library University of Oxford, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library Yale University, and Leiden University Libraries.
The successful candidate would be expected to work with the collaborator libraries to identify suitable maps for inclusion into the online platform. They will also coordinate research and curate digital assets identified for inclusion in the platform. They will be expected to work closely with the platform designers.
Requirements
The candidate will have at least a Masters degree in a relevant area, preferably with a specialist interest in history of Asia and curation, including curation of digital assets.
The following is essential:
- Familiarity with maps as historical source material;
- Expertise in history of Asia, and preferably Southeast Asia and/or maritime histories;
- Experience of archival research;
- Experience in curation of historical assets.
The following is advantageous:
- Experience in digital humanities
- Language proficiency in any of the following languages: Portuguese, Dutch, Mandarin or French.
