The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking a self-starter with excellent project management skills to join the Exhibitions Department as an Exhibitions Project Coordinator.

The Exhibitions Project Coordinator assists curators in the development and implementation of mid-size and major exhibition projects organized by VMFA, focusing on concept, checklists, publications, on-site and venue coordination. This position reports to the Senior Project Manager, Exhibitions.
Duties include:
- Assists curators in the development and coordination of major and mid-size, collection-based and traveling exhibition projects organized by VMFA.
- Manages timelines, creates checklists, facilitates loan requests, schedules meeting and coordinates with multiple departments during project development and implementation.
- Completes traveling exhibition packages for distribution to prospective venues with Manager of Exhibitions; actively reviews trends and makes recommendations for additional opportunities.
- Facilitates approvals of exhibition elements with appropriate VMFA staff and others as advised.
- Manages queries from venues, photographic requests and other exhibition-related information.
- Travels to prospective venues as assigned.
- Acts as spokesperson and representative of the exhibition, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong project management experience.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask in active environment with high attention to details.
- Ability to manage projects effectively, on time and within budget.
- Ability to receive and contribute valuable peer feedback, demonstrate respect and mentorship and respond in an open and receptive manner to changes in the work environment or work demands.
- Ability to adjust methods and approaches to carry out tasks effectively in situations of ambiguity and uncertainty.
- Flexibility with work schedule and availability. Employees may be required to work overtime during staffing shortages, peak workload periods or in bona fide emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exceptional project management experience in a museum, university or similar workplace.
- Graduation from a college or university with major course work in Art History, Museum Studies, or related field or equivalent applicable training or experience.
