Reporting to the Curator of Art & Exhibitions at the Victoria Gallery & Museum (VG&M), you will support the Curator in fulfilling the University¿s ongoing drive to address the legacies of slavery and colonialism in the context of its own history. Working with the Curator, you will investigate the histories and provenances of the collections the University holds and the direct and indirect links to the legacies of slavery and colonialism. The work undertaken also forms part of the University¿s contribution to `Universities Studying Slavery¿ and its approach to the Advance HE¿s Race Equality Charter. You will also work closely with other curators within the Museums & Galleries team and colleagues in the Library¿s Special Collections and Archives team.
You will also be expected to contribute to the VG&M¿s digital online content and social media. This job will suit candidates with a demonstrable interest in colonial issues, an understanding of de-colonisation in a museum context and with excellent skills using online and archival historical sources. The job will require working in an upper-storey store room to which there is no lift access and, on occasion, in an off-site store on campus. The job also necessitates some lifting and ladder work. You should have 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent) including English Language. The post is available from 28 June 2021 until 27 June 2022.
