Reporting to the Director of Visual Arts, the Visual Arts Coordinator & Curator will work closely with faculty, staff and students to support the planning of public exhibitions and events, artist talks and visual arts courses. Responsibilities include developing of interdisciplinary relationships in the College and the University. This is a part-time 10-month/year position requiring a flexible schedule.

This is a part-time (12-20 hrs/week)10-month/year position requiring a flexible schedule.

Essential Duties Summary
Responsibilities include the following:
1. Curatorial supervision for three to four on-campus exhibitions annually.
2. Coordinate all aspects of Visual Arts public events and exhibitions including: scheduling the
dates, determining content and panelists; arrange for space and AV support with IMATS and
EMS, coordinate catering, process speaking agreements, loan agreements, and/or recording
releases. Supervise and process speaking fees/payments and W-9 forms for panelists.
3. Responsible for communication with various departments at Barnard (Communications, IMATS,
Aramark, EMS, Accounting, co-sponsoring departments).
4. Assist students with independent studio art projects in the required courses for the major:
Advanced Studio, Senior Thesis, and Imagery and Form.
5. Participate in class group critiques of student art works
6. Assist with the planning of off-campus trips including NYC gallery and museum visits and
faculty led study trips abroad for students in the Visual Arts
7. Responsible for ensuring that the painting studio and senior studios are clean, have the necessary
supplies and comply with safely codes.
8. Maintain the Barnard College Visual Arts Facebook page
9. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exhibition design and installation skills and experience
  • Demonstrated capacity to be highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and women’s art history
  • Strong familiarity with social media

Required Qualification Summary

Master’s degree in Art History or Studio Art preferred
Experience working with students.
