Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA)
We are seeking a dynamic artistic director and an experienced cultural leader who has deep engagement with Chinese contemporary art and visual culture. They will be ambitious to develop a new vision and purpose for the organisation as a whole and be committed to promoting cross cultural dialogue and understanding between cultures through the visual arts.
They will be a confident spokesperson and advocate for the organisation and for the promotion of Chinese contemporary culture in Manchester, nationally and internationally. They will be well-networked and be able to build and maintain effective collaborations with artists, institutions, in order to create the greatest possible impact. The successful candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker and committed to creating the conditions within which artists and a range of creative voices can thrive. They will maintain a focus on communities and audiences, ensuring inclusivity, diversity and relevance across all aspects of the organisation.
We are looking for an enabling individual who works collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve the organisation’s vision and lead by example in making a culture of belonging. They will have an inclusive leadership style, an ability to consult and communicate clearly and persuasively across internal and external stakeholders. They will be able to motivate and develop the team and have the entrepreneurial flair required to ensure the ongoing sustainability of CFCCA.
Job Description
Job Title: Director
Hours of work: Full time, (37.5 hours per week)
Salary: £48k – 55k (starting salary negotiable dependent on experience)
Responsible to: CFCCA Board of Trustees via the Chair
Responsible for: The Director is responsible for the artistic and strategic leadership of the organisation including managing the Curatorial, Digital, Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations, Business Development and Community Engagement functions of the organisation.
Job Purpose
To lead a process of reimagining CFCCA, its mission, vision and purpose with respect to Chinese contemporary art; to explore with its existing stakeholders as well as new stakeholders, what kind of organisation is relevant, what it will do and with whom it will work, and to begin to devise and deliver a programme that fulfils its new vision and strategic direction.
Working closely with the Board and staff team, the Director will provide
overall artistic, strategic and operational leadership for the organisation,
ensuring the appropriate and effective management of CFCCA’s artistic and public programmes, its team, operations and finances. The role will devise and lead, in agreement with the Board, all areas of CFCCA’s work, setting out its artistic purpose, increasing its visitors, fundraising and growing the organisation’s public profile, reputation and income generation, while supporting the Board in effective governance.
Key Areas of Responsibility
All roles within CFCCA’s team currently work towards a common goal to support delivery of CFCCA’s vision through organisational objectives of Programme Excellence, Engagement, International Reach, Research, and Organisational and Financial Resilience.
The Director’s role has primary responsibility for oversight and direction of the changing objectives, which aligns to the Arts Council England’s (ACE) Let’s Create Strategy and Investment Principles. The Director will lead on the implementation of actions for positive change in organisational culture, policy, processes and practice detailed in the organisation’s People Management and Equality & Diversity action plan.
The Director will also lead on CFCCA’s new ACE NPO funding bid for 2023-2026, its business strategy and delivery. The changing objectives reflected in the 2023-24 Business Plan for review and development headlines are: Creative Ambition, Local and Global Engagement, Inclusion & Relevance, Talent Development, Digital Enterprise and increasing Digital Engagement, Resilience and Entrepreneurial, Environmental Action.
