Duties and Responsibilities
We are looking for someone with a practical, but creative and collaborative approach to exhibition making to join the UCL Culture team as our Exhibition Manager. The main purpose of this role is to lead and deliver small-scale exhibitions and exhibits with UCL curators and co-creators from concept to installation including object selection, interpretation and design. We are looking for someone who knows best practice and can share their understanding of exhibition making with a range of stakeholders, from experienced curators to those who may be new to this type of work.
An interest in sharing practice and an appetite for co-creation are key: This role will work collaboratively within the UCL Culture team, working with staff, students and local communities towards the aim of curating inspiring places for staff, students and the public.
UCL Culture is a multidisciplinary team committed to connecting the world with UCL through innovative programming and engagement activities. We use our assets in the form of collections, museums, theatre and most importantly our people and know how to mobilise the UCL community, inspiring them to engage people with their research and their research with people. Our most recent exhibition and public programme explored climate justice alongside the run of COP26 in Glasgow. Our programming places an emphasis on exhibitions that forge cross-disciplinary connections across UCL collections and research, exploring power and social justice to engage staff, students and external audiences in new and interesting ways.
The Exhibition Manager is part of the Museums and Cultural Programmes team that is responsible for exhibitions and displays for public audiences to installations across campus to developing public art projects that enhance the public realm and local community.
Key Requirements
You will have relevant experience of developing, installing and managing installations and exhibitions, including working collaboratively with communities, researchers or artists to develop exhibition content and interpretation plans. We’re looking for someone with excellent team working skills, and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams towards their agreed goals. You’ll need collaboration and influencing skills to work with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines to create exhibitions that engage and challenge and are inclusive and accessible.
