Job Description
- contributing to the development of the museum’s collecting and programming strategy in the area of Ink Art, a sub-area within the discipline of Visual Art. The area of Ink Art at M+ encompasses modern and contemporary ink painting, calligraphy, drawings and other traditional media or works on paper, as well as more broad engagements with ink aesthetics;
- researching and developing interpretation around Ink Art in the M+ Collections and M+ Collection Archives;
- proposing public programmes and digital content that can further a transnational and multidisciplinary understanding of Ink Art practices within East Asia and extending to other parts of Asia;
- fostering and maintaining professional relations with a network of individuals, institutions and organisations that M+ can develop partnerships in the area of Ink Art;
- conducting research and proposing works of Ink Art for possible acquisition consideration; and
- performing other ad hoc duties as assigned by supervisor.You should:
- possess a recognised university degree, preferably in History of art, or equivalent;
- have at least 10 years of relevant research and curatorial experience in the field of modern and contemporary Chinese art or Asian art, with specialist knowledge based on ink art,
- possess in-depth knowledge of ink painting, calligraphy and other traditional media especially within Greater China,
- have proven experience in research, curating and staging exhibitions;
- have relevant international networks and knowledge of other museums, institutions and organisations; and
- possess excellent spoken and written communication skills in English, and preferably Chinese and/or another Asian language.
