Since Tate Modern opened in 2000, its programme of major temporary exhibitions, collection displays, commissions, live performance, and film programme has developed in diversity, scope and profile. In 2016 Tate Modern opened the Blavatnik Building increasing the scope and breadth of the exhibition and collection displays. The Tate Modern curatorial team ensures the highest standard of content and delivery of this programme.
This exciting position offers the chance to play a leading role in helping Tate to fulfil its ambition of rethinking the history of modern and contemporary art, bringing expertise in art from the Americas, with an emphasis on Latin America, the Caribbean and its diasporas to guide the research, development, and care of the Tate’s collection.
You will work within the Curatorial team, supporting the research and acquisition of modern and contemporary art from the Americas, leading on the Latin American Acquisition Committee (LAAC) and have a significant supporting role on the North American Acquisition Committee (NAAC), closely working with Tate curators based in the regions for each committee. You will also devise, develop and deliver exhibitions, Collection displays and projects, undertaking all activities in alignment with Tate’s priorities, including those concerning our audiences, our environmental impact, and our staff values.
You will be able to combine your curatorial flair with an ability to work collaboratively and make an effective contribution to how art from the Americas is thought about and understood at Tate Modern. With an inclusive leadership style, you will possess the ability to inspire your colleagues, share your expertise and motivate and support the development of our curatorial team and contribute to the overall vision of Tate.
You will be an experienced curator or specialist with an in-depth knowledge of modern and contemporary art with a particular specialism in art from Latin America and the Caribbean. An impressive track record of project and exhibition making, as well as publication and research, an established network of contacts and an understanding of the issues surrounding collecting modern and contemporary art for museums. You will also be a first-class communicator who can write for a variety of audiences.
