THK Gallery
THK Gallery is a dynamic contemporary art gallery situated in the heart of Cape Town, South Africa, with an experimental space in Cologne, Germany.
The ‘Gallery Associate’ is a key position at THK Gallery focused on sales, exhibition coordination and artwork production, and the administration needed in the day to day running of the gallery. Qualified candidates to be highly motivated, organised, with proven sales experience in a contemporary gallery setting.
This is a full-time position, Tuesday through Saturday, and requires flexibility for additional hours based on the needs of the gallery (i.e. openings and special events).
Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the gallery directors in all parts of the sale process: sales strategies, generate sale leads, and aftersales
- Support opportunities to promote and sell artists’ work through the gallery and at gallery exhibitions, art fairs, and pop up exhibitions
- Support sales enquiries through online platforms, website enquiries and press positioning
- Build relationships with new collectors and follow up with existing interest
- Overseeing production of artworks, shipping
- Assisting with the smooth day to day running of the gallery and gallery activities
- Assisting with the planning and organisation of the gallery programme, including gallery exhibitions, museum exhibitions and art fairs
- General administration
- Liaising with local and international partners including galleries, museums, fairs and institutions on exhibitions, manufacturing, shared artists, exchanges etc.
- Creating, developing, and sustaining relationships with artists, having an in-depth understanding of each artist’s individual practice and biography
The primary functions of the position include:
- Working closely with the gallery directors in all parts of the sale process: sales strategies, generate sale leads, and aftersales
- Supporting the day-to-day operations, and administration
- Planning and implementing of working structures and logistics
- Monitoring of all tasks and projects including production
- Consulting and reporting back frequently
- Planning, budgeting and organisation of exhibitions
- Communications and relationship management with artists and exhibitors
- Communications and relationship management with museums, partner galleries and art fairs
- Overseeing online presence across platforms, ensuring the gallery website and listings on external platforms i.e. Artsy are up to date
- Assisting Press and PR Management
- Other gallery related tasks, events and communication
Requirements:
- B.A. in Art History, Fine Art, or 2 years relevant work experience
- Proven sales experience in a contemporary art gallery setting
- High degree of knowledge about contemporary art, institutions, and the art market
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and efficiently within tight deadlines
- Good computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Artlogic and Artsy experience preferred

Salary dependent on experience
