Manager, Studio Programs

Starting Salary Range: $52,200 – $58,770
Employment Status: Full Time Salary (Exempt). 35 Hour Work Week
Reporting to the Senior Manager, School Programs, this position is responsible for the development, implementation and artmaking experiences that support the museum’s mission, IDEAS goals and educational priorities. The Manager, Studio Experiences manages all paid studio classes for adult and youth audiences, art camps, and other hands-on programming and creative opportunities that introduce new media and practices, engages across disciplines and leverages potential partnerships with our community.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Program Development: Research, design, and promote a creative slate of studio classes, camps, and workshops that respond to visitor needs, connect to museum’s collection and exhibition programs, represent best pedagogical practices, and support revenue goals. Assist with School, Girl Scout, and Homeschool Workshops.
- Supervision: Hire, supervise, and train part-time, on-call, and contract Teaching Artists who serve as studio instructors and assistants for schools, families, youth, and adult programs. Conduct annual performance reviews, provide feedback, and coach as necessary.
- Studio and Gallery Management: Manages maintenance and usage of Ford Learning Center (FLC) studio facilities, supplies, and equipment. Plans and implements for student exhibitions in the education gallery space.
- Evaluation: Develop program outcomes and measures of success for programs. Conduct evaluation and utilize findings to inform program development.
- Budget: Responsible for appropriate fiscal management and budgeting. Manage studio program budgets, collaborate with museum staff to account and track revenue from direct payments and grants.
- Administrative: Perform administrative duties related to the studio programs. Track and document program records, policies, and procedures.
- Other: All other duties as assigned and in general support of the department, division, and/or museum.
Requirements
CORE CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Education/ Experience:
- BA or BFA (MA preferred) in art education, fine art, or related subject area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience teaching art.
- Two (2) or more years’ supervising staff or volunteers.
- Previous experience acting as a supervisor of employees. Specific knowledge/experience with hiring, coaching, discipline, performance management and development. Knowledge of management principles and best practices.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and video conferencing software.

- Technical Acumen: Well versed in technology and/or the ability to identify the technologies that have impact on the growth and sustainability of the museum and to attain the knowledge required to leverage the power of those technologies in the daily job.
