This scholarship provides the opportunity for an early career professional working in a curatorial or collections role at an Australian museum or art gallery to conduct a 4-6 week research residency at the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. Its aim is to promote cultural exchange, professional development and international collaboration by providing the opportunity for a young professional to work on a project related to the collections of the Museum of Asian Arts or Ethnographic Museum at the Humboldt Forum. This may include researching objects for an exhibition or program, provenance research or enhancing collection documentation. It is open to emerging professionals from the museum sector who are Australian permanent residents or Australian citizens.
The scholarship is open to curatorial and collections staff from cultural institutions across Australia with an area of expertise related to the collections of the Museum of Asian Arts or Ethnographic Museum. First Nations curators are strongly encouraged to apply as are museum professionals with a strong background in working with culturally diverse communities.
Selection criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualification
- 3-5 years curatorial experience in a museum/gallery or as an independent curator
- Critical writing skills and track record of original publications
- Demonstrated research ability
- Experience in the care, development, documentation and interpretation of a collection
- Experience in working with diverse cultural communities as a collection manager or curator is highly desirable

Scholarship:
The successful applicant will be awarded AUD$10,000 for the duration of the residency to cover the cost of flights, accommodation and per diems and applicants will be offered the opportunity to participate in a German language course at the Goethe-Institut before the commencement of the residency.
The Curatorial Residency at Humboldt Forum scholarship is organised by the Goethe-Institut Australia and funded through Friends of Goethe Australia.
