Studio das weisse haus is announcing a three to four weeks residency for one international curator with a focus on photography. The goal of the program is to realize:
- a presentation (for further details, please see below)
- in combination with two Open Studio Days on June 24 and 25 with the Studio Artists of our program as part of the festival of FOTO WIEN (June 1 – 30, 2023).
Currently, eight Vienna based artists work in the studios located at Hegelgasse 14. While some use photography to document their performances or drawing processes, others employ it as a field for experimentation, such as cyanotype. Some of the artists portray people or record urban changes. However, all of the artists share photos of their works and installation views on their website and social media. Photography is omnipresent in the daily life of an artist, it is impossible to get around without it. Following this year’s theme of the festival (Photography Lies), we would like to question where the truth ends and the lie of photography begins.
The residency includes
- a grant of 800 euros
- a travel voucher of up to 200 euros for travelling green within a radius of 1,000 kilometers
- a living voucher of 500 euros
- a working space free of charge
- the organization of a presentation as well as two open studios with the studio artists during the festival FOTO WIEN. Therefore, a production budget of up to 500 euros is available. For the presentation the following premises are provided [download]

Application Guidelines
Curators who would like to be considered as candidates, are asked to submit the following documents in English or German (max. 10 MB) with the subject Curator in Residence 2023 to application@dasweissehaus.at
- The fully completed application form [download]
- A letter of motivation including a rough sketch for the presentation as well as the open studio days on June 24 and 25, 2023 (max. one A4 page)
- A professional CV detailing recent projects, exhibitions, workshops and residencies (max. two A4 pages)
- A portfolio including realized exhibitions and projects

Selection Process
All submissions that meet the aforementioned criteria and arrive by April 17, 2023 at 5 pm CET will be reviewed by the team of studio das weisse haus.
