The Richard Wagner Museum with the National Archives of the Richard Wagner Foundation preserves and uses the world’s largest collection of archives and objects related to Richard Wagner, his wife Cosima and their descendants as well as the history of the Richard Wagner Festival. In particular, the close proximity to and cooperation with the Bayreuth Festival makes the museum a cultural attraction with international attention.
The area of responsibility essentially includes:
– Collection management / depot logistics and planning
– Supervision of the collection in question, including paintings
– Object protection and security of the collection goods
– Conservation and restoration in collaboration with external restorers
– Integrated Pest Management
– Processing of loan requests from home and abroad
– Supervision of special exhibitions in the RWM ( Exhibition management in cooperation with the curator, designers, trades )
– Object indexing in MuseumPlus, checking object data and links
– Data editing in MuseumPlus
– Supervision of property entrances
– Supervision of the museum management software MuseumPlus ( Agreements between colleagues, urban IT and providers )
– Project management for the selection of a new museum documentation system
– Supervision of the IT issues of the Richard Wagner Museum in consultation with the municipal IT
– Participation in the digitalization project team
– Support the preparation of the collection for digitization
– Cooperation with the management and different departments of the museum
We expect from you:
– Completed study of museum science / museum science / art history or comparable courses
– relevant experience in the museum area
– Extensive specialist knowledge of museum databases and web-based systems as well as data structures, especially in the digitization of collections. Also a basic understanding for possible user groups and their essential interests and search strategies
– good knowledge of metadata models, indexing guidelines and standard data ( CIDOC-CRM, LIDO, GND, AAT, etc. )
– Routine handling of digital camera and scanning technology
– Experience with digitization projects
– Knowledge of the legal basis ( UrhG, BayArchivG )
– Safe handling of MS Office applications
– Flexibility with different workloads and careful, structured and solution-oriented work, even under time pressure
– error-free command of the German language in spoken and written, negotiation-proof language skills in English and possibly another foreign language
– high team and communication skills
– Knowledge of culture, especially the music history of the 19th and 20th. Century, life, work and effects of Richard Wagner, especially the production history of the Bayreuth Festival.
