The documenta archive was founded in 1961 by Arnold Bode, the initiator of the Kassel exhibition company, with the task of providing the artistic management with a memorizing institution. Today, the documenta archive, sponsored by documenta and Museum Fridericianum gGmbH, is dedicated to the collection, documentation and scientific research of texts, images and objects on modern and contemporary art. One of the focal points is the history of documenta exhibitions that have been taking place since 1955, the changing curatorial practices, their social interdependencies and institutional requirements.In addition to its functions within documenta and Museum Fridericianum gGmbH, the house deals with documentary strategies in the present arts and media history aspects. The documenta archive is a member of the working group of independent cultural institutes e.V. ( AsKI ) and initiates research and exhibition projects along its own holdings, in cooperation with regional, national and international science and cultural institutions.
The range of tasks in the documenta archive includes:
– Strategic preparation and support of research, exhibition and digitization projects of the documenta archive
– Creation of data management plans as well as coordination and monitoring of data processing, data modeling and transformation of data records
– Participation in the digital transformation processes of documenta and Museum Fridericianum gGmbH
– Planning a concept for long-term digital archiving
– Representation of the documenta archive in thematically relevant networks and working groups
Your profile:
– A university degree ( B.A. / M.A. ) in the field of digital humanities, in a discipline assigned to the humanities or art sciences or computer science with proven interest in the other specialist areas
– Proven knowledge of database systems and data standards in the ( art ) archive and museum area
– Experience in the sustainable handling of audiovisual research data, digital editions and object collections
– Openness to innovative methods and tools of digital humanities / art sciences / data science
– Affinity for the art of the 20th and 21st. century
– High level of personal responsibility, initiative and flexibility
– Pronounced team and communication skills
We offer:
– A temporary position, initially until December 31, 2025, with high design potential in a committed team in the international environment of documenta exhibitions for contemporary art
– Flexible working time models with a weekly working time of 40 hours.
– Payment is based on TVÖD E 13 ( depending on qualification )
– A job in the center of Kassel with very good connections to local and regional public transport
