The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. Commitment to learning a basic proficiency in Welsh to Sylfaenol level within three years.
What you’ll do…
As part of the Development team, you will work on a range of bids, preparing and submitting high quality funding applications and proposals, to secure funds and increase income from trusts, foundations and other appropriate grant giving sources to support the work of Amgueddfa Cymru, its priorities and strategic commitments. Including fundraising for capital projects across our family of museums, such as the redevelopment of National Slate Museum in Llanberis, re-erecting historic buildings at St Fagans and heritage conservation and sustainability projects, amongst many other exciting initiatives.
You will develop relationships with existing and potential new funders, delivering tailored cultivation and stewardship activities and a proactive programme of identifying new funders.
You will have line management responsibilities. The post reports to the Head of Development and will work closely with other grants colleagues, project leads, heads of departments and Directors.

How you’ll achieve this…
- To create and develop income generating plans and cultivation and stewardship plans for Trusts and Foundations together with Head of Development.
- To maximize income from funders who currently support the organization
- To manage and develop external relationships by providing timely and detailed information on funded projects and the future work of Amgueddfa Cymru, either in person, digitally, or in writing.
- To work closely with the Head of Development and colleagues throughout the organization in identifying projects which are suitable for funding, and sources of funding.
- To keep abreast of developments within the trust, foundation, and lottery sectors so that all possible opportunities can be assessed
- To assess against criteria, and make recommendations to the Head of Department, on applications for funding from trusts, foundations, and lottery sources.
- To develop prospect list to ensure sustainability and mitigate the risk of our over reliance on small pool for funders.
- To develop relationships with potential new funders, maintaining a proactive programme of identifying prospects.
- Communicate knowledge of prospects, funders and potential opportunities to colleagues, ensuring eligibility, suitability and process understood.
- To apply for appropriate funding from the various funding streams, collaborating with external partners, where appropriate, on partnership projects.
- To prepare high quality compelling funding proposals, where user is at heart of the proposal and impact of our work communicated
- Ensure relevant colleagues or project teams are aware of grant agreements and terms & conditions, ensuring grant maintenance and compliance and excellent funder relationships.
- To contribute significantly to the overall Development income target and to the efficient work of the Department as a whole, and to help ensure that Department objectives and targets are met.
- To actively use the CRM database to record and progress all activities and to feed this information into planning and team meetings.
- To work closely with the Head of Development on fundraising activities, and arrange for third parties such as Directors, Board of Trustees members or other supporters to become involved in solicitation and stewardship as appropriate. Ensuring appropriate briefing materials provided and post briefing notes and actions delivered.
- To attend internal and external meetings as appropriate to take forward the work in this area.
- To play an active role in the Development Department, including managing and supervising staff
- To carry out other activities as may be requested by the Head of Development from time to time.
- Comply with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice, Ethical Fundraising Policy and the GDPR.
