The Art Gallery Society of NSW (AGS) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee (Note: we are not a public service organisation) that runs the official Membership Program for the Art Gallery of NSW (AGNSW).
We are looking for a high performing individual with professional experience in developing, writing and editing a significant art magazine with a large distribution.
The Look Editor manages the production and editorial content of the Society’s bimonthly publication Look as a membership magazine devoted to furthering the organisation’s objectives of enhancing members’ experience of art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
This position is responsible for all aspects of planning, editing and producing 6 issues of Look magazine each year as a key membership benefit. Look is a bimonthly 84 page arts publication that is a key benefit of membership posted to members, keeping them informed about exhibitions and events at the Art Gallery of NSW, enhancing their experience of visiting the Art Gallery, and fostering their connection to the state’s leading institution for the visual arts and its membership body.
The Editor oversees the production and advertising with the external publisher and sources and generates story ideas through liaison with AGNSW curators and other staff, as well as consulting with the communications and media team.
The Editor is responsible for overseeing the production of editorial content including managing story ideas, writing stories and commissioning internal and external writers, designers, photographers and other contributors. The Editor works with the publisher to edit, design, produce and distribute each issue in print and online, as well as distribute online content through AGNSW and AGS digital and social channels.
The applicants must have demonstrated skills in writing, editing and producing long format articles and content for a general audience including practical experience in planning, editing and publishing magazines, journals or specialist publications. Excellent verbal and written communications skills and experience in dealing with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders is essential.
The Art Gallery Society of NSW (AGS) is the official Membership Program for the Art Gallery of NSW (AGNSW). Our purpose is to deliver a range of benefits, events and services to over 30,000 members and to support AGNSW with financial assistance toward artwork acquisitions, programs and exhibitions – creating opportunities to enhance the experience of the Gallery for our members and the community.
This is a one year maternity leave contract.
